Dear churches of Australia!
We have some exciting plans for our summer teams program this year – and we want you to be involved!
In light of closures during COVID-19 restrictions, we are wondering if you could do with some enthusiastic young people helping you out this summer – with anything! We aim to encourage, refresh and lend some hands to you and your community.
What could this look like? Helping you host a summer holidays Bible program for kids in your region, gardening and maintenance on the church property, backyard blitzes in your community, letterbox-dropping for an upcoming event, cleaning out a shed or store room, mending the Christmas production costumes, preparing meals for your relief ministry… however we can be helpful to you in reaching and impacting your communities, while helping our teens to have an authentic experience of missions and ministry in our own backyard!
This summer, we have two kinds of programs in mind: ‘circuit’ teams, visiting 3-4 churches during their field time (4 – 20 Jan 2021) and ‘booster’ teams, who dig down deep with 1 church for the summer, becoming equipped and experienced in as many diverse ministries as you can offer.
In the spirit of training tomorrow’s missionary today, we want this summer to be an opportunity for teens to experience practical and evangelical ministry, preparing them for future ministry and mission opportunities. We want them to gain confidence through hands-on work – and learn to work hard! You can count on us being ambitious in our plans to work with you this summer.
The beauty of our summer program is the ability to tailor teams’ training to prepare them for their unique summer projects. This is why we can be so open and flexible to your ideas and plans – and hopes and needs in your community.
Not only do we provide trained teens, but each team has at least three trained adult leaders who will work their teams well to help you accomplish your goals, and will liaise with you throughout the summer. Leaders are responsible for leading their team and for the day-in, day-out organisation of their teams’ work and continued training. Teams are intended to be a blessing, not a burden; they have a budget for food, manage their own cooking and can bring portable kitchen equipment if needed, provide their own bedding, and can bring tents to accommodate teams of any size if this works best for you.
Where to from here? If you want to ‘throw your hat in the ring’ to host a team this summer, please fill out the Expression of Interest form below. This will give us key details (your location, initial ideas, and program type you are interested in) – after which the TMIA office will contact you to discuss the suitability of your church being involved.
Please note that while we would love to travel to every interested church, and help with all of your needs, we cannot guarantee a team to you or the guaranteed completion of a project through filling out this form alone: we can only begin the process of investigating your church as a candidate host. Please also note that teams have restricted budgets and this may be a cost-sharing endeavour for your church, depending on the size of the team and your project ideas.
