Where will I be going?

This summer you’re heading to Thames, New Zealand.

The gateway to the Coromandel Peninsula on New Zealand’s north island, Thames is a historic town framed by the majestic, volcanic Coromandel Ranges. Located on the Firth of Thames, near the mouth of the Waihou River, Thames is teeming with beauty and opportunity. Stunning beaches, sea caves, natural thermal hot pools and dense, misty rainforests fill the Peninsula. Here, you’ll find your summer adventure.

Your hosts this summer are the Thames Salvation Army Corps. The Salvation Army are committed to preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ and meeting human needs in His name without discrimination.

What will I be doing?

After your time of training at Boot Camp in Tewantin, QLD, your summer will multiply the evangelical effort on the Coromandel and see real needs met in the community in Thames alongside your hosts. Having gathered in the same building since 1886, you will help bring new life to the building through painting and to the community through various other practical ministries which aim to not only help the poor but to proclaim the name of Jesus.

You will share the love of Christ and serve the community through a Christmas community meal, delivering food and presents to the most vulnerable in society, and pushing the limits of modern-day evangelism on the streets in a crusade of compassion. You may have the opportunity to engage in bicultural mission by worshipping God through Māori waiata (singing) and haka.

Don’t just travel; have an adventure as you follow Jesus, starting here this summer.
