Come to Uganda, the Pearl of Africa! This will be the first Australian Teen Missions team to minister in this East African country of 30 million people. Over 50% of the population is under 15 years of age and thousands of Watoto children are orphans due to war or AIDS. This team will travel from Brisbane, then onto Hong Kong, and finally will land at Entebbe International Airport, right by the shore of Lake Victoria, the largest lake in Africa. You will board a bus for an eight-hour journey to the furthermost North-western town of Koboko. Along the way you may even have the chance to see some of the unique African wildlife. You will experience the relaxed atmosphere of the village as you settle at Teen Missions’ newest Orphan Rescue Unit, which will help meet the growing need of handling the tide of orphans whose parents died of AIDS and the refugee children coming from war torn areas. Your main project will be to construct classrooms. You will also have the opportunity to reach out to the people of Koboko and surrounding villages with the Good News of Jesus Christ using puppets, music, drama and testimonies. You will sleep in tents and bathing and laundry will be done using buckets. For sightseeing, you may want to travel back to Kampala where you will find many fascinating souvenirs to purchase such as handcrafts, drums, wood and soapstone carvings, baskets, bags, jewellery and national clothing. You may also enjoy a picnic on the shores of Lake Victoria before returning to Entebbe for your flight back to Australia for Debrief.
